Stora Skuggan - Silphium
Silphium is a fragrance built around a plant that no longer exists - a spice so prized in the ancient world that it was harvested to extinction, its taste and smell lost to history. Stora Skuggan reconstructed it from surviving relatives and historical descriptions, setting it against ancient incense, woods, and leather.
Silphium was a plant that grew in present day Libya, widely renowned as a spice, medicinal herb and perfume ingredient throughout the empires of classical antiquity. The demand for Silphium eventually became so overwhelming that it was harvested to extinction, and the taste and smell of the once greatest spice in the world were lost in time.
